German post

The result of a week in Germany:

medium_german.jpg
  • The new Rebecca: Insisting on getting the magazine in the airport-bookstore between landing and luggage-claim, while not wasting time, has taught me it also comes in an English translation! I would have been quite happy with the German one, but was in such hurry that all I did was focus on the title and just swore at the prize when paying...Regardless of having paid double the German prize I enjoy my purchase though, which has several models to dream about... :-)
  • 2 pairs of Regia sock-yarn I really don't need. Just had a strong urge to buy something. They were on sale though and I do like the colours!
  • German socks (size 41-42 ish) for a senior family member with his origin down there. I used a Regia yarn dyed in the colours of the German flag. Some Opal was introduced for the heel to maintain the striping pattern.

 Coming up: dishcloths!!

Warderobe additions

It may have been quiet here, but a few things have happened in the background. The brown thing from HP-gruppen is long done and I'm fairly happy

medium_brun_HP_bluse.2.jpg

Yarn: 310 g Mandarin Petit from Sandness.
Needles: 3 or 3.5 mm (can't remember)
Pattern: from HP-gruppen.
Modifications: No major, except knitting body in round as far as possible. My sleeves seem a lot narrower than the ones in the pattern-picture. I would make them wider should I knit it again, but refuse to change it now.

My rather excessive cotton-shopping has still not been transformed into the intended blanket. There is simply too many possible options for how this can happen, though I may have made a (not very original) decision now.

In the meantime I got so frustrated, having so much yarn and not knowing what to do with it, so I grabbed a considerable part of the orange and made this top  from Rebecca nr 31

medium_orange_aldi_bluse.jpg

Yarn: 460 (!) g db Aldi cotton
Needles: 5 mm
Pattern: Top from Rebecca nr 31 2006
Modifications: I didn't knit the rib-sleeves, and for the neck opening, did two rounds of single crochet, rather than knitting a few rounds.

As such I do like it. But the reality is that shape-wise this pattern and I are not really designed for each other. It has been worn though, with me pretending I'm slightly thinner than is the case!

I like Rebecca, and am off to Germany in a weeks time to bring back the new autumn issue. Might visit a few friends and relatives while I'm there anyway.

Vest & Hat

It was supposed to be a quick knit, but i spent ages fiddling around with the neck-opening, until I eventually realised I had to rip the front and start the V-opening further down.

medium_vest.jpg

The colours of this yarn are FANTASTIC. The photo shows them pretty well, but only to the extend they can be photographed. This is yarn which must be seen live and touched :-)

Details:

Yarn: Unikat, colour Parrot (01): 100 % Merino

Needles: 6 mm (rib) and 7 mm (stockinette stitch)

I have used 25 g for the hat and 72 g for the vest

Pattern: none really, but took measurements from a Garnstudio pattern

So that's one item off the list. Next FO coming up will be the brown thing, only needs a bit more rib along the neck and seaming.

Regarding the rather excessive purchase from a few days ago: I have since regained my basic math skills and after some swatching realize that I have yarn for 3 medium sized blankets :-)

Don't Ask..

This morning I found myself walking out of Aldi with about 5 kg of yarn! The combination of reccurring blanket-knitting-fantasies and the Aldi sale suddenly made ?? take over.

medium_garnbjerg.jpg

My fantasies revolve around a log-cabin design, probably to be strongly inspired by this or this (I have 5 colours of yarn). The yarn is pure mercerized cotton and probably painful to knit with for extended periods of time. But it was cheap and I've got mindless knitting from now untill app. 2017 :-)

I'm now trying to find a software solution that makes it easy to play around with combing squares and colours. I'm a bit of a computer-girl by nature and don't feel like paper and crayons...

Baby-vest coming up, just need to make tiny blanket-swatch...

Looking for focus: A mega-post

I have too many WIPs:

Last week I had the great privilege of being let into the storage room of Nannas shop and this is what I came out with

medium_Unikat.JPG

This beautifully coloured yarn is intended for a vest for a brand new young man to wear the coming winter (its 100 % merino). That is, when his parents care to hand wash the item! - forgot all about practicalities and baby-clothes when I saw a sweater Nanna had knitted in the yarn for her own son. I might do a hat or some socks also, depending on how much is left after completing the edges. A progress shot:

medium_drengevest.JPG

An item which has been active for a relatively long is this brown thing. Pattern from HP-gruppen (can't find link on their homepage) using Mandarin petit from Sandness. I really like it and look forward to wearing it, but it seems to take forever. This not only because it turned out to need 4 sleeves, but socks and baby-things with deadlines keep getting in the way!

medium_brunbluse.JPG

The socks in my last post were originally intended as a present but turned out too small for the recipient, though luckily just my size :-) I have therefore started a new pair, this time from the other of my recently purchased sock books:'Fancy silk socks' (yarn from Hjertegarn)

medium_strømperE.JPG

I had to remove a considerable amount of dust from this one, a hat I knit some late evening in winter. I wasn't happy with the look of the decreases, and it got abandoned. This is not really an item I'm longing to wear right now, but it would just be really nice to finish it and get it out of my way!

medium_blaahjelm.2.JPG

The last knitted knitting WIP is this cardigan to be. I thoroughly like the look and feel of the knitted parts, but think I got a bit intimidated by the approaching collar and other finishing bits, which lead me to abandon this also! Would be nice if it didn't have spend yet another winter inside a box!

This was a presentation of my KNIT WIPs.

The things is though, I have recently become someone who can crochet, and in the very near future I shall share also my CROCHET WIP (only 1 item though!), along with my only two finished crochet items (trust me: nothing fancy!)

But for now, off to try and finish something!!

No holes :-)

Finally I got it: I can now knit a short-row heel with no offending holes and wauw does that feel good :-))

It started by me reading this, and shortly after Mr. Postman brought me a few books on sock-knitting (you know: it's no possible to buy just one).

medium_sokkebøger.jpg

I did the 'Fantasievolles Strukturmuster' from Das Geniale Sockenbuch using yarn from stash, originally intended for something completely different (!). I am so pleased with the result, both the absent holes and the yarn colours, which knitted look much better than anticipated.

 My new favourite socks :-)

pattern:  Fantasievolles Strukturmuster' from Das Geniale Sockenbuch

Yarn: Fortissima Colori, colour 2425oliven degradee. I bought the yarn from Markno, but over a year ago, and I don't think they have it anymore
